Visitor's Guide - Naha Okinawa

🌴 What to Do in Naha - A Conference Attendee's Guide

Coming to Okinawa for the Global Summit? Here is your insider guide to making the most of your time in one of Japan's most vibrant, culturally rich, and delicious cities.

Getting Around Naha

🚝 Yui Rail (Monorail) - Connects Naha Airport to central Naha and most major hotels. Fast, cheap, and easy to navigate even without Japanese.
🚕 Taxis - Widely available and reasonably priced for getting between neighborhoods.
🚲 Cycling - Bike rentals available near the main tourist areas. Flat terrain makes cycling easy around central Naha.

Must-See in Naha

🏯
Shuri Castle
The restored palace of the Ryukyu Kingdom, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A short monorail ride from central Naha.
🛍️
Kokusai-dori
Okinawa's famous International Street - 1.6km of shops, restaurants, and local crafts. Perfect for an evening stroll.
🐠
Makishi Public Market
The beating heart of Naha's food culture. Fresh seafood, local produce, and Okinawan specialties on the first floor; restaurants upstairs where chefs cook your market purchases.
🌊
Naminoue Beach
Naha's own urban beach - a quick escape from the city for a sunset swim between sessions.

Okinawan Food - What to Try

🍜 Okinawa Soba - Not actually soba! Wheat noodles in a rich pork and bonito broth. The island's signature comfort food.
🥩 Rafute - Melt-in-your-mouth braised pork belly, slow-cooked in awamori and soy.
🥗 Goya Champuru - Stir-fried bitter melon with tofu, egg, and spam - an acquired taste that locals swear by.
🍺 Orion Beer - Okinawa's own crisp, light lager. Best enjoyed ice-cold after a day of sessions.
🥃 Awamori - Okinawa's indigenous distilled spirit, made from Thai rice. Try it on the rocks.

Day Trip Options

If you have extra time around the conference:

🏖️ Churaumi Aquarium - One of the world's largest aquariums, about 2 hours north by bus or car.
🌿 Cape Manzamo - Dramatic coastal cliffs with iconic arch formation, stunning at sunset.
🏛️ Nakagusuku Castle - A ruined Ryukyuan castle on a hilltop with panoramic views of both coastlines.

Naha is a city that rewards wandering. Step off Kokusai-dori into the covered arcades, find a sanshin player in a small restaurant, watch the light on the East China Sea at dusk. The conference provides the professional development - Okinawa provides everything else.
