🏆 Introducing the Okinawa JALT Awards & Recognition Program
Every great presentation, every volunteer who set up chairs, every member who stayed for years - deserves to be recognized. Okinawa JALT is launching a comprehensive awards program that celebrates excellence at every level.
For too long, outstanding contributions to our chapter have gone without formal acknowledgment. That changes now. President Norman Fewell has proposed a new awards framework that covers conference presentations, volunteer service, and long-term dedication - and the first awards will be presented at the Global Summit 2026 in October.
Conference Awards - Presented at Every Event
🥇 Best Presenter Award Recognizes the most outstanding presentation of the event, judged by a designated panel. | 🎨 Best Poster Award Celebrates excellence in poster design and academic content - a proven motivator of quality. |
💡 Outstanding Innovation in Teaching Honors exceptional creativity, originality, or practical impact in the classroom. | ⭐ Outstanding Service Award Acknowledges a member who has made a notable contribution to the event or chapter. |
Volunteer Recognition
🙌 Volunteer of the Year Award
Awarded annually to the volunteer whose cumulative contributions across all chapter activities have been most exemplary during the calendar year. Our events would not happen without our volunteers - this award makes sure they know it.

The Highest Honor
🌟 Okinawa JALT Lifetime Achievement Award
The chapter's most prestigious honor, awarded to an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary, sustained contributions to Okinawa JALT over the course of their membership. Exceptional leadership, mentorship, and dedication that has meaningfully shaped our chapter's identity and legacy. Awarded at the discretion of the Executive Board - not necessarily every year.

Long-Service Awards
A formal, automatically-triggered recognition system for members who have demonstrated sustained commitment to the chapter over time - applied both for current long-serving members and going forward.

🏅 15+ Years: Distinguished Service Award
All recipients must be members in good standing. Awards are verified by the Executive Board and approved by the Chapter President. High-quality certificates and plaques issued for all categories.

First Awards: Global Summit 2026
The inaugural awards will be presented at the Global Summit 2026 in October! Long-Service Awards will also be applied retroactively to all currently eligible members. If you have been with us for three years or more, your recognition is coming.
