Chapter Initiative - Leadership
👥 Expanding Our Leadership Team - Two New Officer Positions
Okinawa JALT is growing - and our leadership structure is growing with it. Two new officer positions have been proposed to distribute responsibilities more effectively and bring new talent into the heart of our chapter.
President Norman Fewell submitted this proposal on June 3, 2026, noting that expanded officer roles benefit the chapter in multiple ways - increasing member involvement, providing meaningful professional development titles for CVs and job evaluations, and ensuring smoother leadership transitions.
Proposed Position 1: Vice President
🌟 Vice President
The Vice President supports the President in all chapter operations, represents Okinawa JALT at regional and national JALT events, and takes a leading role in membership recruitment and retention. This is an ideal preparation role for future chapter leadership.
Key responsibilities:
- Co-develop and implement the annual chapter plan
- Represent the chapter at regional and national JALT events
- Lead membership recruitment and retention initiatives
Recommended appointment: Koji Namihira - Faculty at the University of the Ryukyus with strong ties to public school teachers and Japanese faculty. A key bridge to the Japanese educator community.

- Assist with blog and social content under the Publicity Chair
- Provide support for conference proceedings and special publications
Recommended appointment: Adam Murray - with strong background in academic publishing and previous chapter service. A natural fit for this role.

Why This Matters
🤝 More Involvement More positions means more members with a direct stake in the chapter's success. | 📋 CV Value Official titles provide meaningful recognition for job evaluations and professional profiles. |
⚖️ Balanced Workload Distributing responsibilities prevents burnout and keeps the chapter running smoothly. | 🔄 Smoother Transitions More officers means better handovers when leadership changes. |
Both positions carry one-year renewable terms. Role descriptions and shared Google Drive folders will be created for each position to ensure smooth onboarding and handovers. Official recognition of new officers will take place at the next general chapter meeting.
